Baru minggu lalu ada browser baru versi beta muncul, minggu ini ada browser yang sudah mengeluarkan versi beta lagi, yaitu Opera 9.6. Di versi baru ini, Opera mengklaim bahwa versi 9.6 beta ini lebih cepat dari versi sebelumnya. Dari segi tampilan, versi 9.6 beta ini tidak ada perubahan sama sekali. Entah karena Opera tidak merencanakan adanya perubahan antarmuka atau perubahan tersebut disimpan untuk stable release nanti. Walaupun ada isu bahwa Opera berencana ingin dibuat dengan lokalisasi berbahasa Indonesia, tetapi sampai saat ini language file untu bahasa Indonesia masih belum tersedia.
Last week, a new browser has released its first beta version. This week, another browser release its beta version, Opera 9.6. In this new version, Opera claims that it’s faster than the previous version. But for interface, Opera 9.6 beta doesn’t have any changes at all. Maybe they save it for stable release or they really never want to have any changes from the beginning. Althought there’s some rumors that Opera will make Indonesian Localization, it seems there’s no language file available until now.
Opera 9.6 beta menawarkan beberapa fitur tambahan yang cukup menarik. Yang pertama adalah history penulisan address bar dan search dapat disinkronisasi melalui Opera Link. Dengan fitur ini, halaman situs web yang ditulis di satu komputer bisa tersedia di semua komputer, lumayan untuk orang-orang yang menggunakan lebih dari satu komputer untuk kesehariannya (misalnya punya komputer desktop di rumah dan bawa-bawa laptop buat ke kantor).
There’s some interesting new features in Opera 9.6 beta. The first one is typed website address history and custom search can be synchronize with Opera Link. It makes any website address typed in one computer will be available in all computer. Quite convenient for people who using more than one computer (a desktop computer at home and a notebook for work).
Saat meng-klik icon RSS di address bar, Opera akan menampilkan preview terlebih dahulu sebelum melakukan subscribe terhadap RSS tersebut. Tampilan halaman feed preview-nya seperti ini.

Email Client di Opera sekarang memiliki mode “low bandwidth” dimana Opera akan menggunakan bandwidth seminimal mungkin. Opera hanya akan melakukan sinkronisasi pesan-pesan baru dan tidak akan mengambil attachment kecuali diminta oleh pengguna untuk email dengan protokol IMAP. Sedangkan untuk POP, Opera hanya mengambil 100 baris pertama dari pesan yang baru kecuali diminta oleh pengguna.
A new low bandwidth mode are intoduced in email client which makes Opera use bandwidth as little as possible. For IMAP type email, Opera will only synchronize new messages and it won’t fetch any attachment embeded unless requested by user. As for POP type email, Opera will only fetch first 100 line of a message unless requested by user.
Fitur lain di Email Client Opera adalah “Follow/Ignore thread” dimana kita bisa menentukan pesan dari thread mana saja yang ingin diikuti. Sangat bermanfaat jika mengikuti milis tertentu dan banyak yang “nyampah”, cukup ignore thread saja, hehe.
Another feature in Opera’s email client is “Follow/Ignore Thread” which allow you to pick which thread do you want to follow or to ignore. Very usefull if you participate in some mailing list and there’s a (or two) spammer(s), just ignore the thread, hehe.
Layout engine Opera mengalami sedikit kemajuan. Opera mendapatkan nilai 85 untuk tes Acid3 dimana sebelumnya hanya mendapatkan nilai 83.
Opera’s layout engine improved, just a little bit. Opera 9.6 beta got 85 points in Acid3 test which previously got only 83 points.
